O ιδιωτικός ντετέκτιβ Tom Welles (Nicolas Cage) αναλαμβάνει να εξιχνιάσει την προέλευση και αυθεντικότητα μιας ταινίας snuff, δηλαδή ταινίας πορνό που ενδέχεται μέσα της να περιέχει αληθινό φόνο, καθώς και την τύχη της κοπέλας που φαίνεται να δολοφονείται...Αναγκάζεται να φτάσει στα άδυτα τις σκληρής και παράνομης πορνογραφίας με τη βοήθεια ενός υπαλλήλου Sex shop (Joaquin Phoenix) και γρήγορα καταλαβαίνει ότι όταν χορεύεις με το διάβολο αυτός δεν αλλάζει, ο διάβολος αλλάζει εσένα !!
