Μετά την επιτυχία του «Στη Σκιά των Τεσσάρων Γιγάντων» ο 60χρονος Άλφρεντ Χίτσκοκ θέλει να δοκιμάσει κάτι τολμηρό και αποφασίζει να γυρίσει το ριψοκίνδυνο από κάθε άποψη «Ψυχώ». Όταν το στούντιο αρνείται να τον στηρίξει, αποφασίζει να προχωρήσει μόνος του, ρισκάροντας τη φήμη, την περιουσία αλλά και τη σχέση με τη γυναίκα του.
