Ο κύκλος των χαμένων ποιητών ή η λέσχη των νεκρών ποιητών είναι το soft πέρασμα του Peter Weir από αλήθειες κατά του κομφορμισμού και του συντηρητισμού. Χωρίς να κρατάει αποστάσεις από το θέμα του, και πατώντας πολλές φορές σε ένα εξόφθαλμο voice over φτιάχνει μια ηθικοπλαστική ταινία. Κοπιάζει για να δημιουργήσει έδαφος για εύκολη επιβίβαση του κοινού διαμέσου συγκινησιακών και επικοινωνιακών τρικ. Ωστόσο ακόμα και αυτή η "ύπουλη" μέθοδος εξαγνίζεται σε μεγάλο βαθμό, καθώς η ταινία του αποτελεί αντιρρησία των χαλιναγωγημένων καιρών. Νομίζω πως αυτό την έκανε δυνατό κεραυνό στα χρονικά της έκδοσής της(κέρδισε και το oscar άλλωστε) αλλά το πλήρωμα του χρόνου στέκεται απειλητικά απέναντι της!
