Μετά τον στρατό, ο Μπράιαν Φλάναγκαν προσπαθεί να βρει δουλειά στη Νέα Υόρκη, όμως χωρίς κάποιο πτυχίο είναι πολύ δύσκολο.Αποφασίζει να σπουδάσει και παράλληλα αρχίζει να δουλεύει σαν μπάρμαν.Γνωρίζει τον Ντάγκλας Κόγκλαν, ο οποίος του μαθαίνει τα μυστικά της δουλειάς και γίνονται καλοί φίλοι.Σε λίγο καιρό γίνονται από τους δημοφιλέστερους μπάρμεν της πόλης.Μαζί ονειρεύονται να ανοίξουν το δικό τους μπαρ.
