Ο επιχειρηματίας Edward Cole έχει καταφέρει να γίνει μεγιστάνας στο χώρο της ιδιωτικής υγείας. Στο νοσοκομείο του υπάρχει ένας απαράβατος κανόνας: απαγορεύονται τα μονόκλινα δωμάτια. Όταν ο ίδιος θα χρειαστεί να νοσηλευτεί θα χρειαστεί να υπακούσει στον κανόνα αυτό, και να μοιραστεί το ίδιο δωμάτιο νοσηλείας με τον εργατικής καταγωγής, μηχανικό Carter Chambers. Οι δύο διαφορετικοί χαρακτήρες θα αποφασίσουν πως στην κατάστασή τους, θα πρέπει να κάνουν όσα βρίσκονται στην 'Bucket List' τους. Σε μια λίστα με πράγματα που θέλουν να δοκιμάσουν πριν τα 'τινάξουν'. Έτσι θα ξεκινήσουν ένα ταξίδι ανά τον κόσμο χτίζοντας μια γνήσια φιλία, απολαμβάνοντας κάθε στιγμή της ζωής τους.
