Από το σκηνοθέτη της επιτυχημένης σειράς «Ο Πύργος του Ντάουντον» και βασισμένη στο ομώνυμο best seller του Μάρκους Ζούσακ, «Η Κλέφτρα των Βιβλίων» είναι μια έντονη ιστορία, βγαλμένη από την ίδια τη ζωή.

Η ταινία επικεντρώνεται στην ιστορία της μικρής Λίζελ, ενός ξεχωριστού κοριτσιού με απίστευτο κουράγιο, που δίνεται για υιοθεσία σε ανάδοχη οικογένεια, στη Γερμανία του Β’ Παγκοσμίου Πολέμου. Με την υποστήριξη της νέας της οικογένειας και του Μαξ, ενός νεαρού Εβραίου πρόσφυγα που η οικογένειά κρύβει στο σπίτι της, η Λιζέλ μαθαίνει σιγά-σιγά να διαβάζει. Για την Λίζελ και τον Μαξ, η δύναμη των λέξεων και της φαντασίας είναι ο μοναδικός τρόπος διαφυγής από την ταραχώδη κατάσταση που επικρατεί.
