Ο Χάρι Πάουελ κυκλοφορεί ως ιερέας και δολοφονεί τις γυναίκες με τις οποίες παντρεύεται, πιστεύοντας στα κακά σαρκικά ένστικτα των θηλυκών. Συλλαμβάνεται για κλοπή αυτοκινήτου και βρισκόμενος στη φυλακή, προσπαθεί να αποσπάσει από τον καταδικασμένο σε θάνατο συγκρατούμενό του το πού έχει κρύψει ένα μεγάλο ποσό χρημάτων. Το μυστικό κρύβεται στη σύζυγο του θανατοποινίτη και στα δύο του παιδιά κι ο Πάουελ τα επισκέπτεται με τους πιο δόλιους σκοπούς.
