Ένας φωτογράφος τραυματίζεται κατά τη διάρκεια μίας από τις παράτολμες αποστολές του. Καθηλωμένος στο αναπηρικό καρότσι, σκοτώνει την ώρα του, χαζεύοντας από το πίσω παράθυρο τις ζωές των ενοίκων της απέναντι πολυκατοικίας: ένα ζευγάρι νεόνυμφων, μία μοναχική κυρία, μία «παρδαλή» χορεύτρια, ένα ζευγάρι που κοιμάται τις νύχτες στον ακάλυπτο και τέλος, μία άρρωστη γυναίκα που τσακώνεται με τον μυστήριο σύζυγό της. Οι μέρες και οι νύχτες κυλούν ανιαρά για τον πρωταγωνιστή, με μόνα διαλείμματα τις καθημερινές επισκέψεις της φλύαρης νοσοκόμας με τις νουάρ φαντασιώσεις και της ανιαρής, κοσμικής φιλενάδας του. Μέχρι που μία βροχερή νύχτα, κάτι παράξενο συμβαίνει. Ο παράξενος γείτονας λογομαχεί με την κλινήρη σύζυγο, πίσω από τις κατεβασμένες σήτες. Αφήνει το διαμέρισμα και επιστρέφει, για να ξαναφύγει μέσα στη βροχή. Τις επόμενες μέρες εμφανίζεται μόνος του, πακετάροντας και τυλίγοντας ανάστ...
