Τρέχοντας να ξεφύγει από μία ανεπιθύμητη πρόταση γάμου, η 19χρονη Αλίκη (Mia Wasikowska) θα βρεθεί στη Χώρα των Θαυμάτων (Wonderland), έναν κόσμο παράξενο και ολότελα διαφορετικό από ό,τι έχει δει ποτέ της. Ή μάλλον, ό,τι θυμάται πως έχει δει, αφού δέκα χρόνια πριν είχε βρεθεί και πάλι εκεί. Στη χώρα αυτή θα ξαναβρεί τους ξεχασμένους παιδικούς της φίλους και θα ανακαλύψει το μαγευτικό όσο και τολμηρό πεπρωμένο της, αλλά και πώς αυτό σχετίζεται με την τρομερή Κόκκινη Βασίλισσα (Helena Bonham Carter) και το τυραννικό καθεστώς της.
