Ο Μπράντον Λανγκ, ένας πρώην παίκτης του φούτμπολ, του οποίου η καριέρα έχει τελειώσει μετά από ένα σοβαρό ατύχημα, αποφασίζει να ασχοληθεί με την πιο σκοτεινή πλευρά του αθλητισμού, αυτή των στοιχημάτων. Όταν έρθει σε επαφή με τον Ουόλτερ Αμπραμς, έναν από τους πιο γνωστούς και δυνατούς ατζέντηδες στοιχημάτων της Αμερικής, θα πειστεί και θα μπει στην ομάδα του. Αναπτύσσουν μια σχέση πατέρα - γιου και ο Ουόλτερ γίνεται μέντορας και δάσκαλος στην νέα ζωή του. Σιγά-σιγά τα όρια του παιχνιδιού είναι δυσδιάκριτα και οι μέθοδοι του Ουόλτερ αρχίζουν να ξεπερνούν τα όρια της ηθικής του νεαρού. Και τότε θα συνειδητοποιήσει ότι έχει εισχωρήσει σε ένα μεθυστικό αλλά επικίνδυνο κόσμο χωρίς επιστροφή, όπου ολόκληρες περιουσίες κερδίζονται και χάνονται μέσα σε μία νύχτα και το ρίσκο εξουσιάζει...
