O Κρις Γουίλτον είναι ένας νεαρός με όμορφο παρουσιαστικό, που προέρχεται από φτωχική οικογένεια. Έξυπνος και καλλιεργημένος, ασχολήθηκε με το τένις: έγινε επαγγελματίας και δεν τα κατάφερε να ξεχωρίσει στις λεπτομέρειες.Παρατάει τους αγώνες και γίνεται δάσκαλος του τένις σε κλασάτο κλαμπ. Ένας από τους «μαθητές» του είναι ο Τομ Χιούιτ, εύπορο τέκνο της εγγλέζικης αριστοκρατίας. Τα κοινά τους ενδιαφέροντα τους κάνουν φίλους.Ο Τομ θα γνωρίσει τον Κρις στην αδελφή του, Κλόι, η οποία τον ερωτεύεται. Ο Κρις τρέφει αισθήματα για την Κλόι, δεν τρελαίνεται, όμως, κιόλα για εκείνη.Αντιθέτως, ερωτεύεται τρελά τη Νόλα, σέξι αμερικανίδα wannabe ηθοποιό και... κοπέλα του Τομ! Θα ξεκινήσει σχέση μαζί της ενώ παντρεύεται την Κλόι!Όταν ο Τομ τα «χαλάει» με την Νόλα, με τις... ευχές της μητέρας του που ποτέ δεν την συμπάθησε, εκείνη εξαφανίζεται και ο Κρις πέφτει σε κατάθλιψη, καθώς η Νόλα δεν αφήνει...
