Ο Don Johnston (Murray) είναι ένας μεσήλικας 'Δον Ζουάν' που για μία ακόμη φορά βρίσκεται θεατής στο ίδιο έργο: παρακολουθεί σχεδόν με απάθεια μία ακόμα ερωμένη του (Deply) να φεύγει από το σπίτι και τη ζωή του. Με τον ίδιο περίπου τρόπο λίγο αργότερα θα διαβάσει ένα ανυπόγραφο γράμμα. Σε αυτό μια γυναίκα ισχυρίζεται πως είχε σχέση μαζί του που έληξε πριν είκοσι περίπου χρόνια και καρπός αυτής της περιπέτειας ήταν η γέννηση ενός παιδιού, του οποίου την ύπαρξη βέβαια ο Don αγνοούσε. Παρακινούμενος από το κολλητό του Winston (Wright) που του καταστρώνει ένα πλήρες σχέδιο δράσης, αν και απρόθυμος αρχικά ξεκινά ένα οδοιπορικό αναζήτησης τεσσάρων 'πρώην' ερωμένων του οι οποίες θα μπορούσαν - χρονικά - να ήταν μητέρες του υποτιθέμενου γιου του.
