Δύο άγνωστοι, ο ?νταμ και ο Λόρενς, ξυπνούν αλυσοδεμένοι σε ένα τεράστιο βρωμερό δωμάτιο και διαπιστώνουν με φρίκη, πως στη μέση του χώρου όπου βρίσκονται, υπάρχει ένα αιματοκυλισμένο πτώμα. Σιγά-σιγά ανακαλύπτουν πως έχουν πέσει στα χέρια ενός διεστραμμένου δολοφόνου, που δεν αρκείται στο να σκοτώνει τα θύματά του, αλλά αρέσκεται να παίζει μαζί τους. Για να ξεφύγουν, πρέπει να παίξουν το παιχνίδι τού κατά συρροή δολοφόνου Jigsaw: έχουν 8 ώρες καιρό για να καταλάβουν τους γρίφους που τους στέλνει και να αντιληφθούν, ότι όποιος σκοτώσει τον άλλο, είναι ελεύθερος. Αλλιώς, θα πεθάνουν και οι δύο.
