Για 2000 χρόνια, ο θησαυρός διέσχιζε ηπείρους. Είδε έθνη να γεννιούνται και πολιτισμούς να χάνονται. Όσοι γνώριζαν το μυστικό του, το έπαιρναν μαζί τους. Κατέληξε στην Αμερική... Τα ίχνη του είναι παντού, όμως κανείς δεν υποπτεύεται που είναι κρυμμένος... Εκτός από έναν...Ο Μπεν Γκέιτς, ένας ριψοκίνδυνος αρχαιολόγος, αναζητά ένα χαμένο θησαυρό εδώ και 200 χρόνια, που οκτώ γενιές της οικογένειάς του δεν μπόρεσαν να εντοπίσουν.Για να το καταφέρει αυτό πρέπει να κλέψει τη Διακήρυξη της Ανεξαρτησίας των ΗΠΑ, να αποκωδικοποιήσει το χάρτη, να γλιτώσει από το FBI και όλους τους επίδοξους κλέφτες που θέλουν το θάνατό του και φυσικά να βρει το θησαυρό.Αλλη μια εκρηκτική ταινία από τον παραγωγό των μεγάλων επιτυχιών Τζέρι Μπρούκχαϊμερ με πρωταγωνιστή τον βραβευμένου με Όσκαρ Νίκολας Κέιτζ, μια πλειάδα άλλων μεγάλων ηθοποιών και εκπληκτικά ειδικά εφέ.
