Μετά τον τραυματικό χωρισμό από τη γυναίκα του, ο δημοφιλής συγγραφέας βιβλίων τρόμου Μορτ Ρέινι αποσύρεται σε ένα απομονωμένο σπίτι στην άκρη της λίμνης, για να γράψει το επόμενο του βιβλίο. rnΑντί όμως να βρει την πολυπόθητη ηρεμία του, θα βρεθεί αντιμέτωπος με έναν επικίνδυνο άγνωστο, τον Σούτερ, που ισχυρίζεται ότι ο Ρέινι του έχει "κλέψει" την ιστορία του, και απαιτεί δικαιοσύνη...
