Η Μέρεντιθ Μόρτον είναι μια φιλόδοξη, «σφιγμένη» και γεμάτη τικ νεοϋορκέζα, με προτεραιότητα την καριέρα της, που εύκολα κανείς θα μπορούσε να την χαρακτηρίσει «ψυχρή». Το αγόρι της είναι ο Έβερετ Στόουν, ένας γιάπης ο οποίος την προσκαλεί στο πατρικό του, προκειμένου να γνωρίσει την οικογένειά του, σχεδιάζοντας, ταυτόχρονα, να την ζητήσει σε γάμο χριστουγεννιάτικα. Ο Έβερετ είναι το πιο... νορμάλ μέλος της οικογένειας Στόουν. Ρέμπελοι και αντισυμβατικοί, θα πέσουν επάνω στην Μέρεντιθ για να την... φάνε, βλέποντας πόσο κουμπωμένη και συντηρητική είναι. Ο μόνος που συμπαραστέκεται στην Μέρεντιθ είναι ο Μπεν, το «μαύρο πρόβατο» της οικογένειας Στόουν. Η Μέρεντιθ, μη αντέχοντας το εχθρικό κλίμα, αποφασίζει να προσκαλέσει την αδελφή της, Τζούλι, για ενισχύσεις. Οπότε, συμβαίνει το εξής παράδοξο: ο Έβερετ έλκεται από την Τζούλι, ενώ ο Μπεν έλκεται από την Μέρεντιθ! ?ντε να ξεμπλέξεις...
