Ο Μπρους, ρεπόρτερ σε τηλεοπτικό σταθμό στο Μπάφαλο της Νέας Υόρκης, ζει μια ήρεμη ζωή δίπλα στη γλυκιά αρραβωνιαστικιά του, Γκρέις.Ο φιλότιμος νεαρός, φιλοδοξεί να κερδίσει μια υψηλότερη θέση στο δίκτυο του καναλιού,αλλά όταν χάνει την προαγωγή του από άλλον συνάδελφό του, εξοργίζεται και τα βάζει με το Θεό, εκτοξεύοντας απειλές και κατάρες εναντίον του.Για κακή του τύχη, ειδοποιείται στο βομβητή του και καλεί το νούμερο.Από την άλλη γραμμή του δίνονται οδηγίες για να επισκεφθεί το ... επίγειο αρχηγείο του Θεού στη γη.Πηγαίνοντας εκεί, συναντά το Θεό, ο οποίος έχει να του κάνει μια δελεαστική πρόταση: του παραχωρεί τις θεϊκές του δυνάμεις για μια εβδομάδα.Όμως η δουλειά του Θεού δεν είναι εύκολη και ο Μπρους σύντομα θα συνειδητοποιήσει πως,με το ικανοποιεί τις επιθυμίες των πιστών του, μπορεί να φέρει τη Γη σε μεγάλους μπελάδες!
