Μια περίεργη βιντεοκασσέτα περιέχει περίεργες εικόνες τρόμου και φρίκης, ανεξήγητες για τον θεατή. Μόλις αυτή η κασέτα παιχτεί ακολουθεί ένα μυστηριώδες τηλεφώνημα προβλέποντας ότι θα πεθάνεις μετά από επτά μέρες. Μετά το τελευταίο θύμα, η δημοσιογράφος Rachel Keller αποφασίζει να δώσει μια εξήγηση σε αυτά τα παράξενα συμβάντα. Θα τολμήσει να δει αυτή τη βιντεοκασέτα. Έχοντας μόνο επτά μέρες ζωής αρχίζει έναν αγώνα δρόμου για να ανακαλύψει τι σημαίνουν οι περίεργες εικόνες που αυτή περιέχει. Όμως, τυχαία την κασέτα τη βλέπει και ο μικρός γιος της. Τα τηλεφωνήματα δεν αργούν να έρθουν και η Rachel εισδύει αργά αλλά σταθερά σε έναν εφιαλτικό κόσμο..
