Το “The office” είναι ένα μισάωρο πολυβραβευμένο sitcom που ανήκει στην ιδιαίτερη κατηγορία των mockumendary. Αυτό σημαίνει ότι οι ηθοποιοί ανά τακτά χρονικά διαστήματα μιλούν απευθείας στην κάμερα επειδή τους παίρνουν συνεντεύξεις για ένα ντοκιμαντέρ σχετικό με τον εργασιακό τους χώρο. Το εν λόγω ντοκιμαντέρ διαρκεί και τις 6 σεζόν, με τους δημοσιογράφους να εμπλέκονται ενεργά σε διάφορες φάσεις.
Η σειρά είναι μεταφορά της ομώνυμης βρετανικής του BBC και αφορά στους εργαζόμενους της Dunder Mifflin Paper Company που εδρεύει στον Σκράντον της Πενσυλβάνια. Ένα πραγματικά ιδιαίτερο στοιχείο της σειράς είναι ότι οι μισοί σχεδόν από τα μόνιμα μέλη του κάστ δεν είναι κανονικοί ηθοποιοί. Η Phyllis (Phyllis Smith) είναι casting associate, οι Ryan(BJ Novak), Kelly (Mindy Calling) είναι σεναριογράφοι και ο Mose δεν είναι άλλος από τον Michael Schur, παραγωγό και σεναριογράφο της σειράς.
