"Το ""Κάστρο"" είναι η τελευταία στάση στην καριέρα του παρασημοφορημένου Στρατηγού Irwin. Έχοντας περάσει από στρατοδικείο και χάσει το αξίωμά του, ο Στρατηγός έχει καταδικαστεί σε ποινή κράτησης στην στρατιωτική φυλακή υψίστης ασφαλείας. Εκεί διοικεί εφαρμόζοντας στρατιωτική πειθαρχία ο (δεσμοφύλακας) Συνταγματάρχης Winter. Αρχικά γύρω από το πρόσωπο του νέου κρατούμενου επικρατεί σεβασμός, λόγω του λαμπρού του παρελθόντος. Όταν όμως αυτός θα αντιδράσει απέναντι στον διοικητή και τις μεθόδους του, τότε θα δημιουργηθούν εντάσεις και το κλίμα θα γίνει εχθρικό. Ο Συνταγματάρχης Winter βάζει στόχο να ""σπάσει"" τον Στρατηγό Irwin, με κάθε τρόπο. Εκείνος όμως με την αντίσταση που επιδεικνύει θα συσπειρώσει γύρω του, τους υπόλοιπους συγκρατούμενους και βάζει το δικό του στόχο: να αποκτήσει τον έλεγχο της φυλακής και να προκαλέσει την απομάκρυνση του Winter..."
