"Είκοσι χιλιάδες χρόνια πριν. Η εποχή των παγετώνων έχει αρχίσει. Η Γη είναι ένας θαυμαστός κόσμος γεμάτος κινδύνους. Προκειμένου να αποφύγουν το κρύο, τα μεγαλοπρεπή πλάσματα του πλανήτη και μερικά μικρά και νωθρά μεταναστεύουν προς το νότο.Μοναδικές εξαιρέσεις είναι ένα μαλλιαρό μαμούθ που απαντά στο όνομα Μάνι και του αρέσει να κάνει πράγματα με τον δικό του τρόπο και ένας γιγάντιος βραδύποδας που τον λένε Σιντ, ο οποίος απολαμβάνει να μην κάνει τίποτα, με τον δικό του τρόπο. Όταν ο Σιντ ""υιοθετεί"" τον Μάνι ως προστάτη του, το μαμούθ κάνει ότι μπορεί για να ξεφορτωθεί το ενοχλητικό ""φορτίο"".Αυτή όμως δεν είναι παρά η αρχή των προβλημάτων του: με κάποιο τρόπο, ο Σιντ κατάφερε να τον πείσει να βοηθήσουν ένα ανθρώπινο πλασματάκι να βρει την οικογένειά του. Βλέποντας το μωρό σαν λαχταριστό έδεσμα, στην παρέα τους προστίθεται ο Ντιέγκο, ένας κουτοπόνηρος τίγρης.Στο μεταξύ, ένα άλλο πλά..."
