Όταν έρχεται το χιόνι, το σκοτάδι κατακλύζει την κοιλάδα. Βρισκόμαστε στα τέλη του 19ου αιώνα και ένας ξένος καταφτάνει σε μια απομονωμένη αγροτική κοινότητα στις Άλπεις. Το όνομα του είναι Γκρέιντερ και έλειπε στις ΗΠΑ επί πολύ καιρό. Προσποιούμενος τον φωτογράφο, εκφράζει την επιθυμία να ξεχειμωνιάσει στην πόλη. Η χήρα Γκέιντερ με την κόρη της, Λούζι, είναι αυτοί που θα του παρέχουν εξυπηρέτηση, αλλά η κοινότητα κρύβει μυστικά που θα φέρουν την τρταγωδία.
