Ο Ντέιβιντ Γκαντ είναι κολλημένος σε μια μονότονη ζωή. Μέρα μπαίνει, μέρα βγαίνει, κι αυτός οδηγεί ένα θωρακισμένο φορτηγάκι μεταφέροντας εκατομμύρια χρημάτων που ανήκουν σε άλλους ανθρώπους. Το μόνο που του παρέχει μια σπίθα ζωής είναι η καψούρα του για τη συνάδελφο του, Κέλι. Μια ημέρα, συλλαμβάνει το σχέδιο που θα τον ξεκολλήσει για τα καλά. Με συνένοχους μια παρέα αμφιβόλου εξυπνάδας εγκληματιών, με επικεφαλής τον Στιβ Τσέιμπερς, καταφέρνει να αποσπάσει 17 εκατομμύρια δολάρια από αυτά που κουβαλάει. Το πρόβλημα είναι ότι αυτά τα χρήματα πρέπει να διανεμηθούν στους ηλίθιους συνεργάτες του, οι οποίοι έχουν και τάσεις να τη φέρουν ο ένας στον άλλον. Σπαταλώντας τη λεία σε κάθε παλαβή πολυτέλεια, αφήνουν ίχνη παντού στο διάβα τους. Τώρα, ο Ντέιβιντ πρέπει να βρει τρόπο να ξεγελάσει τις αρχές, να ξεφύγει από έναν απίθανο επαγγελματία δολοφόνο, τον Μάικ ΜκΚίνλεϊ, και να βρει συμμαχίες μόνο σε αυτούς που εμπιστεύεται αληθινά.
