Τι είναι πιο γρήγορο από μια σφαίρα; Μήπως είναι ένα πουλί; Μήπως είναι ο Superman; Όχι, είναι ο Αλεξίσφαιρος Καλόγερος. Αυτός είναι κάτοχος ενός πανάρχαιου κυλίνδρου, που χαρίζει σε όποιον τον έχει στα χέρια του υπερφυσικές δυνάμεις. Μετά από ένα ορισμένο χρονικό διάστημα απαιτείται να εκπαιδευθεί ένας νέος μοναχός προκειμένου να περνάει το μυστικό από γενιά σε γενιά, όπως προβλέπει η προφητεία. Η προφητεία φαίνεται ότι εκπληρώνεται στο πρόσωπο του ανεξάρτητου και ασυμβίβαστου αμερικανού νεαρού, Kar. Τον κύλινδρο όμως θέλει να αποκτήσει και ένας πολύ κακός ναζί ο οποίος μέσα στα πλαίσια μιας ιδιαίτερα πρωτότυπης σεναριακής ιδέας σκοπεύει να κυριεύσει ολόκληρο τον κόσμο" Το Ευαγγέλιο του συγκεκριμένου Καλόγερου πρέπει να είναι το Matrix, καθώς η ταινία έχει δανειστεί αρκετές ιδέες και σκηνές, γεγονός βέβαια όχι ασυνήθιστο. Το μοτίβο που ακολουθείται με θρησκευτική ευλάβεια είναι το ακόλουθο: σκηνές δράσης κάθε δεκάλεπτο, στη συνέχεια μερικές «μεγάλες αλήθειες» του καλόγερου για τη ζωή, την αιτιότητα και το σύμπαν γενικότερα και ύστερα τα ίδια πάλι από την αρχή. Οι σκηνές των μαχών είναι καλά χορογραφημένες, από ένα σημείο και πέρα ωστόσο επαναλαμβάνονται. Εξάλλου ο Sean William Scott δε μπορεί να πείσει ως action hero για τη γενιά των 00s, καθώς φαίνεται πως έχει ήδη τυποποιηθεί ως κωμικός ηθοποιός με τη συμμετοχή του σε teen movies όπως το American Pie και το Dude Where Is My Car. Ο Paul Hunter, που έχει γυρίσει μερικά ομολογουμένως ενδιαφέροντα μουσικά βίντεο, κάνει με την ταινία αυτή το κινηματογραφικό του ντεμπούτο. Δεν ενοχλεί όμως τόσο η βιντεοκλιπίστικη αισθητική, όσο το αναιμικό και προσχηματικό σενάριο μαζί με τις αδιάφορες ερμηνείες. Όσοι πάντως αντέξουν μέχρι τέλους θα πάρουν απάντηση και στο αγωνιώδες ερώτημα: γιατί τα λουκάνικα βγαίνουν σε οκτάδες, ενώ τα ψωμάκια για hotdog σε σακούλες των δέκα.
