"1766. Η μικρή κοινότητα του Ζεροντάν αναστατώνετε απ' τα αλλεπάλληλα και φρικιαστικά εγκλήματα που προκαλεί ένα κτήνος. Εδώ και ένα χρόνο οι προσπάθειες των τοπικών αρχών για τον εντοπισμό και την εξόντωση του σατανικού ζώου αποβαίνουν άκαρπες.Η είδηση θα φτάσει ως τ' αυτιά του Λουδοβίκου ΙΕ' στις Βερσαλλίες που στέλνει τον παράτολμο και ιδιόρρυθμο επιστήμονα Σεβαλιέ Γκρεγκουάρ να εξιχνιάσει το μυστήριο. Το στόρι μας θυμίζει λίγο από ακέφαλο καβαλάρη του Τίμ Μπάρτον.Η σκοταδιστική ατμόσφαιρα ξεπερνά κάθε προηγούμενο. Ένα θρίλερ που δεν έχει να ζηλέψει τίποτα απ' τα αντίστοιχα του Χόλιγουντ. Μια καθ΄ όλα μεγάλη ταινία που καθηλώνει με τις σκηνές δράσεις και την τέλεια αναπαράσταση της εποχής. Aσε που παίζει και η ""θεά"" Μόνικα Μπελούσι. Το γαλλικό σινεμά κάνει αλματώδη βήματα μπροστά. Ίσως η καλύτερη ταινία της χρονιάς. Δέκα με τόνο."
