Το Last Resort αφηγείται την ιστορία του κυβερνήτη και του πληρώματος του πυρηνικού υποβρυχίου ‘‘Colorado’’μετά την αγνόηση εντολής, από τον Λευκό Οίκο, να εξαπολύσει πυρηνικούς πυραύλους προς το Πακιστάν, καθώς είχεθεωρηθεί απειλή, για τη διεθνή ειρήνη και ασφάλεια.Τα άτομα του πληρώματος πάνω στο υποβρύχιο γίνονται φυγάδες, με αποτέλεσμα να αναζητήσουν καταφύγιο σε ένα φυλάκιο του ΝΑΤΟ, σε ένα μικρό νησί, όπου δηλώνουν τους εαυτούς τους ως το μικρότερο πυρηνικό έθνος στον κόσμο.Από αυτό το σημείο αρχίζει ένα έντονο δράμα, που ακολουθεί το πλήρωμα του υποβρυχίου, τις οικογένειες τους και τους ανθρώπους,που εμπλέκονται στο περιστατικό στην Ουάσιγκτον.Το πλήρωμα διατηρεί μια πολύ δύσκολη σχέση με τους κατοίκους στο νησί, μέχρι να αποφασίσουν ποιά θα είναι η επόμενη κίνηση τους,βρισκόμενοι σε αντιπαράθεση με την ίδια τους τη χώρα, αναρωτιούνται αν θα γυρίσουν ποτέ πίσω στις οικογένειες και τους φίλουςτους ή θα αναγκαστούν να περάσουν την υπόλοιπη ζωή τους ως φυγάδες ή ακόμα και στη φυλακή…
