"Τόπος και χρόνος: Μάχη του Στάλινγραντ. ένας νεαρός Ρώσος, άριστος ελεύθερος σκοπευτής ο Βασίλι Ζάϊτσεφ εξολοθρεύει αθέατος τους Γερμανούς αξιωματικούς. Την ιδιότητα του αυτή εκμεταλλεύεται ένας αξιωματικός του Ρωσικού στρατού ο Ντανίλοφ που για προπαγανδιστικούς λόγους τον ανακηρύσσει σε εθνικό ήρωα. Το αντίπαλο στρατόπεδο φέρνει απ' το Βερολίνο τον καλύτερο σκοπευτή του, τον ταγματάρχη Κόνιγκ με σκοπό να σκοτώσει τον Βασίλι, που τώρα έχει εκτός του να φυλάει τα νότα του, να διεκδικήσει και την καρδιά της αγαπημένης του που πολιορκεί και ο ""φίλος"" του Ντανίλοφ."
