Με την έναρξη του Β΄ Παγκοσμίου Πολέμου ο καθηγητής μαθηματικών Άλαν Τούρινγκ γίνεται μέλος μιας ομάδας Βρετανών επιστημόνων οι οποίοι προσπαθούν με άκρα μυστικότητα να σπάσουν το γερμανικό κώδικα επικοινωνιών. Αλαζόνας, εσωστρεφής κι εμμονοληπτικός, ο Τούρινγκ θέλει να δουλέψει με το δικό του τρόπο και όταν ο Τσόρτσιλ τον θέτει επικεφαλής της ομάδας, οι υπόλοιποι συνεργάζονται μαζί του απρόθυμα. Πιεσμένος από παντού, πρέπει να δείξει γρήγορα αποτελέσματα, τα οποία μοιάζουν να αργούν απελπιστικά…
