Stephanie είναι μια εκπαιδεύτρια φαλαινών που έχασε και τα δύο της πόδια σε ένα σοκαριστικό ατύχημα εν ώρα εργασίας. Ο Ali έχει μόλις βγει από τη φυλακή και προσπαθεί, αξιοποιώντας τις γροθιές του, να εξασφαλίσει τα προς το ζην για να επιβιώσει ο ίδιος και ο ανήλικος γιος του. Δυο άνθρωποι που προσπαθούν με κινήσεις σπασμωδικές να επανενταχθούν στην κοινωνία, με την ελπίδα να ξαναμάθουν, βήμα-βήμα, να ζουν. Θα συναντηθούν τυχαία κάποια βραδιά πριν το ατύχημα κι ύστερα μετά ξανά, εκείνος με τα αρτιμελή μα ματωμένα χέρια του στην υπηρεσία της ανάγκης κι εκείνη μισή, με την ανάμνηση της φυσιολογικής ζωής να την διαλύει. Θα ξεκινήσουν μια σχέση ιδιόμορφη και πρωτόγνωρη, που κινείται ανάμεσα στη συμπάθεια, την περιέργεια και τον οίκτο, μα που σιγά-σιγά εξελίσσεται μέσα από μια έλξη καταπιεσμένη και κάπως ξεχασμένη, ωστόσο δυνατή και ανεξήγητη.
