Ο Τζάκι είναι λάτρης της υψηλής κουζίνας. Είναι αυτοδίδακτος, πολύ ταλαντούχος αλλά και εξαιρετικά πεισματάρης. Ο διάσημος σεφ Αλεξάντρ Λαγκάρντ (Ζαν Ρενό) είναι σε διαμάχη με τον Στάνισλας Μάτερ, τον νέο διευθυντή του ομίλου που διευθύνει το εστιατόριό του, Cargo Lagarde. Ο Μάτερ δολοπλοκεί προκειμένου να τον κάνει να χάσει ένα αστέρι στον επόμενο Οδηγό Εστιατορίων, ώστε να τον αντικαταστήσει με κάποιον νεότερο και πιο «σύγχρονο» σεφ, ο οποίος ασπάζεται τη χημική και τη μοριακή κουζίνα που αποφέρει πολύ περισσότερα χρήματα. Ο Στάνισλας Μάτερ ξεκινά απολύοντας ένα-ένα τα μέλη της ομάδας του Λαγκάρντ. Το χειρότερο όμως, είναι ότι ο Λαγκάρντ αρχίζει να ξεμένει από ιδέες για το νέο του μενού, το οποίο πολύ σύντομα θα έρθουν να δοκιμάσουν και να αξιολογήσουν οι κριτές του Οδηγού... Ο Αλεξάντρ αναζητά απεγνωσμένα έναν βοηθά που θα τον βοηθήσει να ανταπεξέρθει με τα δύο γεύματα που καλείται καθημερινά να σερβίρει το εστιατόριο. Και τότε, σε μια περίεργη στροφή της τύχης, θα γνωρίσει τον Τζάκι.
