Η Maya είναι πράκτορας της CIA και η πρώτη της εμπειρία στην υπηρεσία είναι η ανάκριση των κρατουμένων από τις επιθέσεις της Al Qaeda την 11η Σεπτεμβρίου 2001. Συμμετέχει απρόθυμα στις ακραίες διαδικασίες ανάκρισης που εφαρμόζονται στους κρατούμενους, ωστόσο πιστεύει ότι μόνο με τέτοιου είδους τακτικές θα αποσπασθεί η αλήθεια. Η χρόνια έρευνά της να αποκαλύψει που βρίσκεται ο Osama Bin Laden φαίνεται ότι θα αποδώσει καρπούς, όταν επιτέλους το 2011 αποστέλλεται μια ομάδα του αμερικανικού ναυτικού να σκοτώσει ή έστω να αιχμαλωτίσει το γνωστό τρομοκράτη.
