Πρόκειται για την ιστορία ενός εκατομμυριούχου, του Philippe (François Cluzet) που μετά από ένα ατύχημα μένει ανάπηρος και προσλαμβάνει τον Driss (Omar Sy) έναν μαύρο από τα φτωχά προάστια του Παρισιού και πρώην κατάδικο για να τον προσέχει. Μεταξύ των δύο ανδρών που προέρχονται από τόσο διαφορετικά περιβάλλοντα αναπτύσσεται μια σχέση φιλίας. Με τα προβλήματα της περιθωριοποίησης των μαύρων που δεν άλλαξαν παρά τα γεγονότα του 2006 και τις εξεγέρσεις στα προάστια του Παρισιού, η ταινία προσπαθεί να περάσει ένα μήνυμα ελπίδας πως παρά τις διαφορές τους η ανθρώπινη φιλία μπορεί να καταργήσει πολλά σύνορα. Ωστόσο είναι επίσης μια θλιβερή υπενθύμιση των δύο διαφορετικών κόσμων που ζουν στην ίδια χώρα και που η κάθε μια προχωράει με διαφορετική ταχύτητα
