Πληθώρα από παντοδύναμα τέρατα, γνωστά ως Καϊτζού, αναδύονται από τους ωκεανούς και ξεκινάει ένας απίστευτος πόλεμος που κοστίζει εκατομμύρια ζωές και καταναλώνει τους ανθρώπινους πόρους για τα επόμενα χρόνια. Για να καταπολεμηθούν τα Καϊτζού, κατασκευάζονται τεράστια ρομπότ, τα Τζίγκερς, τα οποία κατευθύνονται από δύο πιλότους που οι εγκέφαλοι τους είναι σε άμεση επικοινωνία με το κατασκεύασμα. Ακόμα, όμως, και τα Τζίγκερς φαντάζουν ανίκανα να αντισταθούν στα τέρατα. Στα πρόθυρα της ολικής ήττας, η μοναδική ελπίδα που απομένει βρίσκεται σε δύο πρόσωπα, στα οποία κανείς δεν είχε εμπιστοσύνη: έναν αποτυχημένο πρώην πιλότο και μια εκπαιδευόμενη που δεν έχει δοκιμαστεί σε δράση. Οι δυο τους θα οδηγήσουν ένα ξεπερασμένο Τζίγκερ και μαζί την ανθρωπότητα στην έσχατη ελπίδα πριν την ολική αποκάλυψη.
