Στο μέλλον, σε μια Γη που έχει εξελιχτεί υπερβολικά, ο Τζακ Χάρπερ είναι ένας από τους τελευταίους μηχανικούς αυτοκινούμενων αεροσκαφών που έχουν απομείνει. Αποστολή του είναι να αποσπάσει ζωτικής σημασίας πλουτοπαραγωγικές πηγές, μετά από μεγάλο πόλεμο με τον εχθρό της Γης, τους Σκαβς. Πλέον, η δουλειά έχει σχεδόν τελειώσει, όταν διασώζει μια όμορφη ξένη από την πτώση ενός αεροσκάφους. Η άφιξη της θα επιφέρει μια σειρά γεγονότων που θα κάνουν τον Τζακ να αμφισβητήσει όλα όσα γνώριζε και να καταλάβει πως η μοίρα της ανθρωπότητας είναι στα χέρια του.
