Ο Μαρκ Ρέντον και οι φίλοι του επιλέγουν να γευτούν όλες τις επικίνδυνες ηδονές της παρακμιακής ζωής του Εδιμβούργου μέσα σε πυρετώδεις ρυθμούς και εξοντωτικές εντάσεις. Πού θα τους οδηγήσει αυτή η κούρσα; Σίγουρα όχι στον κήπο της Εδέμ... Ξεκινώντας από έναν ακατανίκητο εθισμό στην ηρωίνη, ο Μαρκ παίζει με τα όρια της προσωπικής του αυτοκαταστροφής, βλέπει τις φιλικές του σχέσεις να τινάζονται στον αέρα, την οικογένειά του να οδεύει στην παράνοια και τις προσπάθειές του να γλιτώσει από τη μοναξιά και τα βάσανα της ζωής να του χαμογελούν ειρωνικά... μέσα σε ένα σάουντρακ σκληρών, ηλεκτρονικών ήχων. Ο Μαρκ μπορεί να γλυτώσει από τον εφιάλτη, αλλά δεν βρίσκει και σημαντικά κίνητρα να διαλέξει τη ζωή...
