Η Κάριγκαν Κρίτεντεν έχει θυμώσει που ο εκλιπών της σύζυγος τής άφησε μονάχα μια εξοχική βίλλα και προτίθεται να της βάλει φωτιά. Όταν, όμως, την επισκέπτεται, βρίσκει έναν χάρτη θησαυρού, αλλά και φαντάσματα. Για να μπορέσει να τα διώξει, προσλαμβάνει τον ειδικό σε παραψυχολογικά φαινόμενα, Δρ Τζέιμς Χάρβεϊ. Ο Τζέιμς έρχεται να μείνει στη βίλα μαζί με την μικρή του κόρη, την Κατ, η οποία πολύ γρήγορα γνωρίζει τον Κάσπερ το μικρό φαντασματάκι. Κι ενώ οι δυο τους θα γίνουν φίλοι, οι τρεις θείοι του Κάσπερ δεν είναι και τόσο φιλικοί.
