Ένας βρικόλακας, ο Louis (Brad Pitt), διηγείται σ`έναν νεαρό δημοσιογράφο την ιστορία της ζωής του ενώ ταυτόχρονα περιγράφει την περίεργη φύση του. Του εξιστορεί πως σε μια περίοδο όπου η απελπισία και οι τύψεις κυρίεψαν τη ζωή του συνάντησε τον βρικόλακα Lestat (Tom Cruise) ο οποίος του πρόσφερε την καταραμένη αθανασία. Μαζί άρχισαν το ταξίδι της ατελείωτης νύχτας και της αιώνιας ζωής. Από τη Λουϊζιάνα του 1791 θα ταξιδέψουν στη Νέα Ορλεάνη. Ο Louis δυσανασχετεί και θέλει ν`απαρνηθεί τη νέα του φύση. Δίψα για ζωή θα του δώσει η παρουσία ενός νεαρού κοριτσιού, της Claudia (Kirsten Dunst). Έπειτα από 65 βασανιστικά χρόνια στο πλευρό του Lestat θα καταφέρει ν`απελευθερωθεί και μαζί με την Claudia θα ταξιδέψουν στην Ευρώπη προσπαθώντας ν`ανακαλύψουν περισσότερα για το σκοτεινό μυστικό που τους στοιχειώνει.
