Έτος 1893? Ένας νεαρός αφήνει την Ιρλανδία με την κόρη του αφεντικού του ? μετά από μια παρεξήγηση μαζί του? με όνειρο να αποκτήσουν ένα δικό τους κομμάτι γης στην Οκλαχόμα. Όταν βρίσκουν τη γη τους, αρχίζουν να δουλεύουν και να μαζεύουν χρήματα.Ο άντρας γίνεται τοπικός μποξέρ και σύντομα γνωρίζει τη δόξα μέχρι τη στιγμή που χάνει.Οι εργοδότες του κλέβουν όλα τα χρήματα του ζευγαριού κι έτσι πρέπει να αντιμετωπίσουν την πείνα μέσα στην παγωνιά του χειμώνα, προσπαθώντας παράλληλα να διατηρήσουν το όνειρο για δική τους γη ζωντανό.Στο μεταξύ οι γονείς της γυναίκας μαθαίνουν που βρίσκεται και ταξιδεύουν στην Αμερική με σκοπό να τη φέρουν πίσω.
