Η σειρά εξελίσσεται στο Seattle, και την Washington, και παρακολουθεί τις αστυνομικές έρευνες , το πένθος της οικογένειας και τους υπόπτους για την ανθρωποκτονία ενός νεαρού κοριτσιού της Rosie Larsen. Κάθε ένα από τα 13 επεισόδια θα είναι το χρονικό μιας ημέρας ερευνών. Σε σύγκριση με την αντίστοιχη πρωτότυπη δανέζικη σειρά η εκτελεστική παραγωγός Veena Sud επεξήγησε διευκρινίζοντας ότι ξεκίνησαν δημιουργώντας το δικό τους κόσμο. Χρησιμοποίησαν βεβαίως την δανέζικη σειρά ως προτύπο αλλά κατέληξαν να δημιουργήσουν ένα νέο κόσμο στον οποίο εξελίσσεται το δράμα, εστιάζοντας πολύ τόσο στους δυνητικά και μη υπόπτους της δολοφονίας, για να δοθεί τελικά η απάντηση στο ποιος σκότωσε την Ρόζι Λάρσεν. Η σειρά αποτελεί μια οξεία διεισδυτική ματιά που δεν επιθυμεί να ωραιοποιήσει τις καταστάσεις ή να παρουσιάσει κάτι εύπεπτο, προσπαθώντας να φωτίσει την υπόθεση από όποια οπτική γωνία μπορεί να ειπωθεί η ιστορία.
